Vietnam Table Tennis tightens regulations to protect children

On September 15, 2026, the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation issued a notice about organizing an online training conference for officials in charge of child protection in table tennis clubs nationwide. The conference will take place at 18:00 on September 29, 2026. According to the notice, from September 1, 2026, the Criminal and Social Order Act (amended) removed the exemption for supervised activities from the legal definition of regulated activity. Previously, some volunteers and coaches working with children under supervision did not need a background check, but this is no longer valid. Supervised roles are now treated the same as unsupervised roles. This training conference aims to disseminate the changes in regulations and their impact on volunteers and coaches. Participants will learn about the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation's background check process as well as the importance of background checks in protecting children in this sport. The target audience for the conference includes club welfare officers, club or federation committee members, and volunteers who regularly work with children. This is an opportunity for officials to better understand their responsibilities in ensuring a safe environment for children when participating in table tennis training and competition. Tightening background check regulations is considered an important step in child protection, in line with the Party and State's policy on caring for and educating the younger generation. Clubs and coaches need to strictly implement the new regulations to ensure the safety of young athletes.
